#OurFirstHome Overall Vibe

Long before we dug a hole in the ground for my new house, I started pinning home inspiration. That is the part that everyone tells you is so fun. And it is… until you’ve pinned what feels like hundreds of similar photos only to stumble on one that stops you dead in your tracks and makes you rethink your entire vision.

I went from ultra Parisian inspired inspo, to more modern, to rustic to (insert any other design here). Second guessing myself was exhausting. So I took a step back and asked myself the following questions:

How do I want the space to feel?
Who is using the space?
How are we using the space?

Answering these questions gave me a clear focal point to design around, especially when designing the kitchen. While I love the look of a kitchen with completely open upper shelves and marble backsplash and counter tops, realistically, this wouldn’t work for us right now – we’ll save that for the Pinterest boards.

I want the house to feel bright and relaxed. I’m a big believer that your space affects how you feel – so we’ll be using lots of neutrals colours, natural materials, and squeezing in as much windows as possible to let in natural light.

This will be my husband and I's first home together. We want to use materials that are easy to maintain but still have longevity to them as we go through the learning curve of owning our first home. We’ll use the space to host our family and friends, so we want the main floor to be open, and have lots of space outdoors for entertaining.

With this clear focal point, it was easier to come up with an overall inspiration board. See the board here.

So until the house is entertainment ready, I hope you will follow along with the design process.
